On June 25, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida police responded to a call of someone shot early Sunday.
When officers arrived, they found Darryl Mack, 19, a recent graduate and football player from Mandarin High School, deceased inside a car. Police reported he appeared to have suffered a gunshot injury.
Family members told Action News Jax that Darryl was going to a party Saturday night before he was found in his SUV near the median.
His football coach said that Darryl was supposed to go to Alabama Prep, before transferring to a bigger school. The coach said Darryl was never a kid in trouble, and he wanted to play college football.
“That football field’s his life,” Darryl’s cousin said. “I think he went to sleep in his cleats.” The Sheriff’s Office homicide unit is investigating. Meanwhile, Darryl’s family has a message for the shooter:
“You’re not only hurting the person, but you’re also hurting the people around them and this did nothing but make the situation ten times worse than what it had to be.”
Our thoughts are with Darryl’s loved ones and friends. Rest easy DMack…
