  1. Good thing that Police has charged him. But I doubt the charge was filed appropriately.

“That you, Shonde Olalekan ‘M’ on the 5th of May,2016 at about 2030 hrs, at 3, Tiemo Str, Egbeda, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did kill one Ronke Shonde ‘F’,age 37 years, by giving her fist blow to the head and thereby committed an offence, punishable under section 221 of the criminal Law of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011”.

With the autopsy report saying Ronke died from respiratory distress, this killer will likely, at best, be guilty of mere involuntary manslaughter. And that’s even if he doesn’t use a fine lawyer. With a good lawyer, he may only be punished for an “assault” – a domestic violence (which unfortunately led to death). A more lenient judge may set him free depending on how he adjudged the question of the husband’s “intent”, his remorsefulness or otherwise at the scene of incident following realization she was about to die, and other circumstances surrounding her death.

The charge should have been at least 3-count exploiting all means of nailing him. This charge is pretending to accuse him of something knowing he will not be guilty of it. It would have been better to charge him as ‘causing the death’ of his wife by throwing her a fist punch on head, rather than saying he killed her by that action. The autopsy report run contrary to the latter.

My heart goes out to the family of the deceased and all her dependants. May they have the fortitude to bear the pain. And also to homes that are going through similar situation (violence; and this is commonplace now) that same eventuality should not happen to them. And this is without warning our singles, marry open-eyed, and stay out of trouble also.
