Marie Harel who was the first person to create Camembert cheese in 1791 was born 256 years ago today. She was born on April 28, 1761, in Crouttes, France.
Google’s logo pays tribute to her. Camembert is similar to brie, in thta both are soft cheese made from raw cow’s milk, except that Camembert does not use cream.
According to Google, Harel met a priest while working as a diarymaid in Normandy manor who shared his secret for making the softer cheese.
