On Saturday, a school bus conveying 36 students swerved off a steep road in Tanzania and fell into a riverine killing 33 students and the driver and 2 teaching staffs making it 36 in all.
The fatal accident happened in the city of Arusha in Tanzania’s northern Karatu District, on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Aruba police Commander Charles Mkumbo said:
“The place where it happened is a hill, with a steep slope, and it was raining when the accident happened. Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what caused the bus to leave the road.”
He said:
“We don’t know if the driver was new or if there was a mechanical defect.”
Two of the students survived but we’re critically injured. The primary school students, aged between 12 and 13 years old, were on their way to another school to take an exam.
