Amir Locke’s 17-year-old Cousin Arrested

Amir Locke’s 17-year-old cousin has been arrested in the homicide investigation that resulted in the fatal shooting of Amir Locke.

According to NBC News, Amir Locke’s cousin was arrested on Monday, February 8, 2022 at around 3:45 p.m. in Winona, Minnesota for the fatal shooting of Otis Elder that happened January 10, 2022.

Although his cousin’s name has not been mentioned being that he is a minor, the Locke’s family confirmed that he is actually his cousin. The Locke family also said that information available confirms that Amir Locke was never the target of that investigation or the no-knock warrants.

“we must remain focused on the fact that Amir Locke was an innocent young man of a raid GONE WRONG” his family said.

Recall that on February 2, 2022 the Minneapolis Police Department SWAT team botched a surprise No-knock warrant of an apartment that led to the fatal shooting of Amir Locke who was shot within 10 seconds of the encounter. The MPD Interim Police Chief Amelia Huffman confirmed last week Thursday, that Amir Locke was not named in the original warrant.

The body cam video however, shows the officers quietly turning a key to the apartment door before they started to shout “Police! Search warrant.” One of the officers even kicked the couch where Locke was and a gun became visible. The outlets also reported police had obtained both knock and no-knock warrants for searches at three units in the apartment complex, which gave officers the latitude to decide which type of warrant to use.

On Friday, February 4, 2022 Mayor Jacob Frey imposed a moratorium on both requests for, and executions of, no-knock warrants following Locke’s death. The Authorities also planned to consult with experts involved in creating Breonna’s Law, which limits the use of surprise warrants in Kentucky.

Protesters, seeking justice for A are still calling for the interim police chief to be fired and for Mayor Frey to resign.
