On Friday, disgraced former U.S. Congressman, Anthony Weiner, pleaded guilty in the teen “sexting” scandal that caused commotion during the 2016 presidential election, amid Hillary Clinton’s email issue.

Weiner’s career tanked after the details of his secret online life were exposed. The scandal revealed that the politician engaged in a series of inappropriate sexual exchanges with women online, including an exchange of explicit images and messages with a then 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. As the investigation into Weiner’s transgressions commenced, officials found a series of emails from his wife, Huma Abedin, a senior aide to Hillary Clinton, sparking outrage over Clinton’s use of a private email server.

At Friday’s hearing, Weiner stood before a federal judge and cried as he apologized to the young girl he sent explicit messages to last year.
“I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse,” he said, just after agreeing to forgo an appeal of any prison sentence of 21 to 27 months as part of a plea deal.

Weiner will also have to register as a sex offender. His lawyer says his client has accepted “full responsibility for the inappropriate, sexually explicit communications he engaged in early last year.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the meantime, Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, has filed for divorce.
