Eritrea Government Denies The Compulsory Polygamy Law Statement

The government of Eritrea have denied the news that went viral on major social media platforms, on compulsory polygamy in the country.

According to reports from BBC, the country’s officials denied the news, with an Eritrean official stating,

“Even a madman in [the Eritrean capital] Asmara would know that this story was not true.”

The alleged compulsory polygamy law was said to have stated that due to the shortage of men in the country, Eritrean men had to marry a minimum of two wives and face life imprisonment with hard labour, same also going for women who deny their husband followinh it.

Eritrea’s Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel tweeted that the news was appalling and illustrated the readiness of people to embrace negative news.

So those that have been planning their trip to the country can stop making preparations.
