A Chicago man has been arrested after he was caught on camera punching a black female security guard in the face early Sunday morning, May 14, on Mother’s Day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to the Chicago Police Department, Matthew De Leon, 23, was charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery. The Chicago Tribune reported that De Leon turned himself in on Tuesday, May 16.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Media reports stated that the victim, identified as Zoa Stigler, a 46-year-old mother of two, was on duty at the 630 North Franklin condo building in River North at the time of the incident.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the shocking surveillance footage, Stigler can be seen making several attempts to help De Leon, who had vomited in front of the building, before he throws a water bottle at her and then punches her in the face. The video also shows that De Leon’s three friends stood by and did nothing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The punch has left Stigler with a broken nose and fractured right eye socket that may require surgery. The condo building where she works has started a GoFundMe page to help cover her medical expenses and recovery.
